26 months old!

April's got a vibrant personality! She's got a thousand hilarious facial expressions that can rarely be caught on camera. She's a happy little girl, but I can already tell that she wouldn't ever want to be called a "little girl" because she acts so big, and she's capable of just about anything. All she lacks is a little height so she can put things on the countertop, wash her own hands without a step stool... She even pushes up her sleeves, washes her own face, brushes her own teeth (of course Mommy's there to coach if necessary).

She knows where everything belongs. When she's in an agreeable mood, she delights in helping mom sort the laundry, putting toys away, putting trash/recyclables in their proper bins (has to be told which is which, but that's OK).

She's got a brazen side to her personality that comes out whenever she's getting bored or wants to shake things up a bit. Her eyes flash defiantly, a rebellious smirk plays on her face as she runs away giggling from a diaper change, or throws her coat on the floor instead of hanging it on the hook, or plays with toys instead of throwing away her old banana as she's been told. Funniness like that. Mom & Dad are still trying to figure out effective ways to show her who's boss, especially if we're in a hurry. Normally a tickle challenge wins the battle for Mom & Dad.

And she's learning to talk too. So many cute little words it's hard to remember right now. But here are a few:

"Keekee's on ah table!" ("The kitty's on the table!" That's April's public service to Mommy who is then expected to tell the cat to get off the table.)

"Mommy, Daddy, My-coh, Baby..." (That's April's family roll call, comes out randomly whenever she feels like rattling off everyone's names.)

"Yesh." - Yes, says it in response to a question with a slow nod and big brown eyes. It's the nod & big brown eyes that make it ever so cute.

Her favorite song is "Popcorn Popping." She does all the hand motions. I hope to catch it on video some time. She's enchanted by any song with hand motions. When she's in an agreeable mood, she'll sing along to "I am a Child of God." She sings that Mozart tune -- you know the one that's interchangeable with twinkle little star, abc's, baa baa black sheep -- she sings it out of the blue sometimes when she's playing or riding in the car.

Dancing around the house: Her favorite times are when the whole family is together. Dance, dance, dance! She likes to bee-bop in the car too. She gets her head bobbing, her arms cranking, her legs kicking. She's got great rhythm and knows a good tune when she hears it.
